Chuck Norris and Jesus

April 19, 2026 by Clay Smith in Jesus and Today

Chuck Norris passed away not too long ago.  As an actor, he portrayed the tough, “don’t mess with me,” round-kick, guy with the white hat, character well.  Of course, this led to the wide range of Chuck Norris jokes:

·       Chuck Norris doesn’t do push-ups; he does push-downs and the earth moves.

·       The flu gets a Chuck Norris shot every year.

·       Time waits for no man… except Chuck Norris.

·       Chuck Norris can dribble a bowling ball.

·       Chuck Norris’ calendar goes straight from March 31st to April 2nd, because nobody fools Chuck Norris.

·       Chuck Norris counted to infinity – twice.

·       A rattlesnake once bit Chuck Norris’ leg.  After five days of excruciating pain, the rattlesnake died.

·       Champions are the breakfast of Chuck Norris.

·       The dark is afraid of Chuck Norris.

·       Before a monster falls asleep, he checks under his bed for Chuck Norris.

·       Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one bird.

·       Death once had a near-Chuck Norris experience.

·       The fastest way to a man’s heart is Chuck Norris’ fist.

·       There was a show called “Surviving Chuck Norris.”  There were no survivors.

·       Chuck Norris once kicked a horse in the chin.  And behold, a giraffe was created.

And my favorite:

·       Chuck Norris was exposed to the COVID virus.  The virus is now in quarantine.

It struck me that many of the attributes ascribed to Chuck Norris, are things that Jesus could do if he wanted.  Jesus could push the earth down.  Jesus created time, so he could make time wait if he wanted to.  Jesus does know where infinity ends.  The dark is afraid of Jesus (“The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it.”).  And death had an encounter with Jesus and death lost (“O death, where is your sting…”).

Why do we want to half-believe that an actor could be all that, and not believe that there is a Savior who not only could do these things, but did them?  Maybe because if Jesus really can do these things, he is then worthy of our worship, our devotion, and our love.

I believe Jesus can do all these things – and more.  Yet he never sought to portray himself as invincible, but instead, took upon himself the form of a servant.  There is so much mystery to this.  We are not sure why God choose this way to show us his love, to teach us how to live, to give us eternal life.  But it rings true, doesn’t it?  If you are God, you are secure in who you are.  You don’t need to prove it.  You don’t need to show off.  It is Satan who needs to show off his power, not Jesus.  Jesus followers would do well to remember this.

When Chuck Norris’ wife went into early labor with twins, Chuck realized his skill, his wealth, his power could not help.  He later said, “I had earned millions of dollars over my lifetime. I’d been a friend to several presidents, yet all the money in my bank account couldn’t help me now. There was only one person to whom I could turn. It was God.”

Chuck Norris showed great humility and wisdom.  He realized a good God, who listens to us and cares for us, was his only hope.  He embraced Jesus and began to follow him.

This is not a joke: What happened when Chuck Norris met Jesus?  He bowed and called him “Lord.”

Are you as wise as Chuck Norris?
